THE BEST TRUE WIRELESS EARBUDS TO BUY IN MID-2021
The headphones True Wireless , TWS in short, have become particularly famous and appreciated on the market in recent years, so much so that over time have appeared more and more different models to design, features, and above all quality and price. With the development of new technologies, these products have also been updated, mainly guaranteeing greater comfort, much more autonomy and new features that take full advantage of the convenience of the absence of wires - among other things, now almost a necessity given that many smartphones they don't even have a headphone jack.
The trend has made Apple AirPods very famous, which, since
their launch, have greatly contributed to defining the success of True Wireless
headphones on the market. Many clones of the Cupertino product were born, much
cheaper but with often poor quality of construction and / or audio; However,
there are also numerous valid alternatives that can satisfy every consumer,
both those who aim at the cost-effectiveness of the device and those who aim
for quality. So let's see which are the best models on the market .
Some key features
Before introducing the headphones, we believe that readers
without great knowledge of the sector may find it useful to define the
fundamental characteristics that define the product , starting from the design.
Many models now on the market adopt the in-ear style, that is the structure
that is inserted deep into the ear cavity thanks to special rubber inserts;
this design allows the headphones to be not only particularly stable,
especially if you want to listen to music during sports sessions, but in most
cases they also offer excellent isolation and better audio quality.
Together with the design it is necessary to observe more
technical characteristics to define the audio quality itself: for example the
sensitivity, measured in decibels; the frequency response, measured in Hertz
and essential for defining the audio range; It is also essential to understand
which audio protocol they use, since in addition to the Bluetooth connection
there may be support for codecs such as aptX to reduce the latency of sending
audio, or Hi-Res Audio to increase quality.
Features are just as essential: Many mid to high-end
earphones now offer Active Noise Cancellation (ANC), a technology that records
ambient noise via the built-in microphones and generates interference to
"destroy" those noises. In many models there is also support for
virtual assistants such as Alexa, Siri and the Google assistant, often together
with the support of touch controls on the exposed part of the headset.
Finally, an essential component is the charging case:
understanding its capacity and charging speed is necessary to know how much
autonomy the earphones can guarantee for listening.
With these details cleared, it's time to see which are the
best True Wireless headphones on the market.
The best True Wireless phones on the market
One of the best models released so far are the Sony WF-1000
XM3 , of which you can also read our review . Although the charging case is
particularly large and the dimensions of the earphones themselves are not
contained, the audio quality and the active noise cancellation technology are
exceptional, not to mention the comfort guaranteed by the Tri-hold structure
with three points of support. Autonomy can reach 5-6 hours with a single charge
and up to three full charges with the case. The price, in this case, in this
period is reaching quotas equal to 170 Euros on Amazon , where additional
coupons are often available that bring the cost to about 130 Euros.
The Bose QuietComfort Earbuds are another of the best models
on the market: although also in this case the charging case and the earphones
themselves, both made of fairly good quality plastic, have quite generous
dimensions, the listening experience is excellent. if not even better than the
aforementioned Sony, which however maintain a better ANC technology. The
autonomy is about 18 hours of listening including recharges, so not excellent
but all in all still excellent. The price is around 240 Euros on Amazon ,
commensurate with the goodness of the product but still high, especially in
relation to that of the Sony model.
The third model to be included in our "podium" is
the Jabra Elite Active 75t . These True Wireless earphones have a particularly
compact in-ear design, ideal both for people who want to use them during sports
activities, and for those who want excellent audio quality. The ANC technology
is not lacking thanks to its implementation via post-launch software, but it is
not as good as that offered by the previously seen Sony earphones.
There is support for voice assistants, autonomy reaches
about 25 hours including recharges, the IP57 certificate is not missing and on
the connectivity side they have Multipoint technology to connect earphones to
multiple devices simultaneously. In this case the price remains around 170
euros depending on the discounts offered.
Unmissable are the Apple AirPods Pro (of which our review )
with a rounded in-ear design that fits perfectly to the ear ensuring
exceptional comfort even after hours of listening. The case is not too bulky,
the active noise cancellation is inevitable and works in an excellent way, the
quality and the sound balance are just as excellent ... but the autonomy partly
disappoints, with 5 hours of continuous use per single earphone without ANC
active. For headphones from 279 euros (without offers), it is not exactly the
best, not to mention that to better protect the product the Apple Care contract
is recommended, which brings the total cost to 318 euros. Nevertheless, finding
them now at 200 Euros on Amazon it is a top-of-the-range product that is
absolutely recommended.
Remaining in the Apple world we also find the Beats
PowerBeats Pro earphones , also reviewed by us , with an extremely compact,
lightweight design, with the headband to completely block the headphones
already in-ear which makes them suitable for both sports sessions and casual
use. The total hours of autonomy exceed 24 hours, while without refills from
the case you remain at 9 hours of uninterrupted playback.
Inside, the earphones have the H1 chip for a particularly
stable and fast connection, and there is also a proximity sensor that blocks
playback when removed from the ear and various physical controls. The sounds
itself, on the other hand, is balanced but less enveloping. In short, an
excellent pair of TWS earphones which, however, comes at a base price of 250
euros .
The best True Wireless phones on the market under 150 Euros
But now is the time to go down with the prices, seeing two
mid-range models to meet the needs of those who want to spend less. Let's start
with the Huawei FreeBuds Pro of which you can find our review on the site , top
of the range model which, however, is already offered at 130 euros on Amazon .
They maintain the now typical in-ear design, thus offering excellent sound
insulation, but opting for shorter temples for a more "minimal"
aesthetic.
There is no shortage of all touch controls, including the
one for the volume, a transparency mode and an excellent active noise cancellation
system. The autonomy is just as good, for 7 hours of listening without active
ANC and a total duration of 20 hours counting the case which, however, has a
rather slow wireless charging.
Another interesting model is the one offered by Samsung: the
Galaxy Buds + we saw at the beginning of 2020 ( here you can find our review on
the site) always come with an in-ear design but with a rather high autonomy,
which touches 8-9 hours continuously. regardless of the case battery. The sound
system is instead taken care of by AKG, enjoys the management with touch
controls and the quality in toto is good, although the lack of ANC technology
is noted. Nevertheless, they still isolate well from the external environment
and guarantee a truly excellent listening during calls, enhanced by the
presence of three microphones. For the cost of about 90 Euros now on Amazon
they are certainly a purchase to be carefully considered.
Not to be underestimated are the JBL Live 300 , sold on
Amazon for 130 Euros or, in the period of great discounts, even for 100 Euros.
It is a pair of in-ear earphones with autonomy that reaches 20 hours total
including charging, compact, lightweight and comfortable design and with IPX5
waterproofing. There is no shortage of the ANC function, the TalkThru &
Ambient Aware technology to decide whether to isolate yourself from the world
or hear the surrounding activity with a simple touch of the touch controls,
support for voice assistants and excellent audio quality, although there is a
slight delay in the sound when watching movies and videos.
The best True Wireless phones on the market under 50 Euros
So let's talk about some low-cost alternatives for those who
do not want to spend over 50 euros, starting with some of the best-known names
in this price range such as Xiaomi Redmi AirDots , TWS headphones with discreet
but remarkable audio quality for the list price of 18. Euro approx .
Lightweight and comfort are important pros in these headphones, but the size
may not be ideal for all users. Autonomy is a clear compromise, given that a
maximum of 4 hours is reached without counting charging from the case.
The multifunction physical button allows you to call up the
voice assistant with a double tap and pause or resume playback. In short, the
Redmi AirDots certainly remain a reliable model.
XIAOMI MI TRUE WIRELESS EARPHONES 2 BASIC
XIAOMI REDMI AIRDOTS
We find an alternative instead with the Xiaomi Mi True
Wireless Earphones 2 Basic , proposed at 27 Euros on Amazon . These are
headphones with a decidedly good build quality and equipped with touch controls
... but limited. The design is clearly inspired by the most famous Apple
AirPods with non-in-ear insertion, this does not guarantee excellent isolation
but can be a pro for some types of listeners. On the functionality side, we
notice an optimization for Xiaomi smartphones and a rather good connectivity
thanks to Bluetooth 5.0. Unfortunately, however, the most important point is
also the worst: the audio quality, in fact, is just sufficient and disappoints
a bit when compared to the Redmi AirDots.
Going up a littleSoundcore Life P2 from Anker , in-ear
headphones with autonomy that reaches 7 hours without recharging and 40 hours
overall, AAC and aptX codex to improve audio quality, four microphones, IPX7
certification to wear them even in the rain and very audio quality good. In
other words, although they hardly drop below $ 49 this is a very good buy, as
we find unusual features for True Wireless earphones below the $ 50 mark.
