VIVO X60 PRO REVIEW: THE UEFA EURO 2020 SMARTPHONE TAKES GREAT PHOTOS
Vivo has recently arrived in Europe , but is already showing that it has great ambitions. The strongest signal given by the brand is the partnership with the UEFA EURO 2020 European football championship, which is taking place in these days. Between one match in Italy and another (force Azzurri), we had the opportunity to put the X60 Pro to the test as it should be, which is in fact the official smartphone of the Europeans. techbizcenter
Sold at a recommended price of 799 euros , which includes
any screen repair in the first six months and a pick-up service at home, the
device focuses heavily on the photographic sector create in collaboration with
ZEISS. Let's go to the discovery of the product.
A backcover that stands out
Already from the first contact with vivo X60 Pro you can see
the attention to detail placed in the construction of the smartphone. In fact,
the backcover has a Shimmer Blue color capable of creating excellent plays of
light. We preferred this choice in terms of design over the classic Midnight
Black variant, which is available on the market for those who want a more
"classic" look. Net of this, the glass with satin finish on the back
and the use of metal guarantee a "Premium" feeling, also giving a
certain solidity to the product. Instead, the protrusion of the imposing camera
module turns up a little, which makes the device "dance" a little too
much when placed on a flat surface.
This can be "solved" using the transparent cover
present in the package, which however is rigid and is certainly not the best
(we would have preferred a classic soft case). About the contents of the
package, we find the pin for the extraction of the SIM compartment, various
manuals, discrete headphones with jack (complete with spare rubber pads),
adapter from USB Type-C port to jack, USB Type-C cable / USB Type-A and 33W
charger. In short, the equipment is complete.
As for the front of the vivo X60 Pro, a screen with a hole
for the camera positioned at the top center and curved edges peeps out, which
will surely be appreciated by enthusiasts looking for solutions of this type.
In a positive sense, the dimensions and weight of the smartphone are also noted
: 158.58 x 73.24 x 7.69 mm, for 179 grams (the data refer to the Shimmer Blue
model that we had the opportunity to try). In a market where it "ends
up" more and more often above 9 mm thick and 200 grams in weight, this
model proves to be very pleasant in terms of handling.
Among other things, during daily use it is possible to
unlock vivo X60 Pro both through the fingerprint sensor placed under the screen
and through the convenient facial recognition. On the other hand, the
waterproofing is absent, as is the video output relative to the USB Type-C port
positioned at the bottom, next to the microphone, speaker and trolley for the
SIM (dual nanoSIM).
For the rest, on the right side we find the power button and
the volume rocker, while on the other there is another microphone. The left
side is instead completely "empty". Interestingly, vivo has
formalized the SAR values related to the smartphone, which are equal to 0.99 W
/ Kg for the head, 1.16 W / Kg for the body and 2.92 W / Kg for the
extremities.
Respectable performances and photographs
The "heart" of vivo X60 Pro is represented by the
Qualcomm Snapdragon 870 processor, flanked by an Adreno 650 GPU, 12GB of
LPDDR4X RAM and 256GB of UFS 3.1 internal memory (not expandable). For the
uninitiated, the SoC involved is "based" on the Snapdragon 865
family, behind the success of the top of the range of 2020. The performance of
the smartphone is therefore halfway between that of the flagships and those of
the mid-range and in fact the price of the device contextualizes the device in
this "limbo". In any case, the performances are very respectable, as
evidenced also by the benchmarks: 710,135 points on AnTuTu Benchmark v9, as
well as 1023 points in single-core and 3444 points in multi-core on GeekBench.
We are not exactly at the top of the market, since devices like POCO F3, sold
at a lower price, have the same processor, but we are on more than good levels.
To support the data sheet we then find a 4200 mAh battery,
which supports charging at 33W (wireless charging is missing). Unfortunately,
the vivo X60 Pro is not exactly a champion in terms of autonomy. Generally with
an average use it is possible to reach the end of the day, but in some cases we
struggled (for example, taking full advantage of the refresh rate of the
display). In short, pay attention if you are among those looking for a battery
phone.
Speaking of the screen, vivo X60 Pro features a 6.56-inch
AMOLED panel with Full HD + resolution (2376 x 1080 pixels), camera hole in the
top center, support for HDR 10+, refresh rate of 120 Hz and touch sampling rate
of 240 Hz. There is no lack of SGS Eye Care certification, as well as the
Widevine L1 DRMs to view content in Full HD on platforms such as Netflix and
Amazon Prime Video.
This display has very few flaws, as it is bright and well
calibrated. Media enthusiasts will appreciate this panel and the presence of an
Always On feature will certainly please a certain type of user (even if it's a
bit limited). For the rest, the audio sector, despite being mono, is not bad:
the multimedia department convinces as a whole.
The technical specifications of the cameras stand out. On
the back we find a triple camera from 48MP (f / 1.48) + 13MP (f / 2.46, 2x
optical zoom) + 13MP (f / 2.2, ultra-wide, 120 degrees), while on the front
there is a 32MP sensor (f /2.45). The partnership with ZEISS has paid off: the
shots are excellent both day and night , presenting natural colors and making
good use of artificial intelligence. Of course, digital noise at night stands
out (and the special mode cannot do "miracles") and there are some
imperfections in terms of macro and wide-angle photos, but in general vivo X60
Pro can offer good satisfaction to those who focuses on this sector.
The maximum zoom that can be reached digitally is 20x, but
better to stop at 2x for quality results, perhaps to be used on social
networks. Excellent stabilization of the Gimbal 2.0 videos: in this sense it
must be applauded. Among other things, capturing the subjects in action, for
example during a football match (after all, it is the official smartphone of
the Europeans), is simple and the final result is almost always of quality.
Video recording goes up to 4K / 60fps at the rear. If you want to deepen the
quality of the photographic sector, you can find some uncompressed photos in
our Drive folder dedicated to vivo X60 Pro .
There is nothing to complain about also as regards the
connectivity sector: there is in fact support for 5G, Wi-Fi 802.11 a / b / g /
n / ac / ax, NFC and Bluetooth 5.1 .
The software and the test of vivo X60 Pro with gaming
The operating system is Android 11 with FunTouch OS 11.1
Global customization. Live customization is interesting from various points of
view. The OS does not feature bloatware and actually has few applications
pre-installed by the manufacturer. Among these, we find iManager, the classic
software to optimize performance. The most interesting additions however are
found by opening the settings. In fact, in addition to the possibility of
setting dynamic effects, we find the "extended RAM" functionality .
Put simply, a bit like some users in the PC field , you can take advantage of
the storage to "increase" the RAM.
vivo X60 Pro is one of the first smartphones to support this
possibility, as 3GB are "added" to the 12GB already present. The real
usefulness of this novelty is very limited, but it is nevertheless interesting
to note how the manufacturer is aiming to exploit this method.
Speaking of software additions, we find the ultra-game mode.
The latter allows you to optimize performance and adds various useful features
during gaming, such as prevention for accidental touches of the screen and
opening WhatsApp in Picture in Picture. vivo has therefore also placed some
attention on video games.
On the other hand, the smartphone, while not aiming
specifically at gaming, is able to provide good satisfaction in this field:
Call of Duty Mobile runs well with details on "Very High" and FPS on
"Max", while ARK: Survival Evolved is playable as it should be with
the "High" preset (although in some contexts you may want to go down
to "Medium"). Fortnite, on the other hand, runs well at
"Epic" at 30 FPS. The only thing that makes your nose turn up a bit
is the fact that the device tends to heat up a bit during longer gaming
sessions, without overdoing it.
